Planning Society
The Planning Society is the academic association on campus concerned with the social welfare of communities and the natural and built environments.
The Society is charged with the mission of fostering knowledge, practice, and advocacy of planning as well as community amongst Planning Society members and the wider body of UCC.
The Planning Society maintains open membership to all UCC students. We encourage students from other displicines and those with genuine interest in planning to join our meetings and events. All Masters in Planning and Sustainable (MPlan) students are members of the Society. PlanningSoc holds a loose relationship with the Irish Planning Institute (IPI) as many MPlan students are student members of the institute.
We hold numerous events throughout the year inviting speakers from the planning profession, local authorities, government departments, environmental commentators and campaigners from all over Ireland. Previous speakers have included Minister John Gormally and Environmental Editor of the Irish Times, Frank McDonald. Most notably in 2009/10 the Planning Society was part of the Green Campus Committee that succeeded in achieving the Green Flag award for UCC. Social outings take place throughout the year culminating in the annual Planning Ball in the spring.
