Red Cross sues Google to find out mystery blogger.
Mr Justice Brian McGovern formally gave permission to have Google Inc. named as the defendant to the action.
Proceedings were also originally to be purused against UPC Communications Ireland Ltd but proceedings against that company – an Internet Service Provider – have now been dropped.
The charity says that the information which appeared on the blog has wilfully distorted and misrepresented confidential company information.
The company added that the action against Google was being taken merely to identify the person who was posting the material.
The charity said that: “Once we have identified the blogger/s, they can speak for themselves, and they will be given every opportunity to do so, and to justify their actions”.
