The Importance of Being Honest‘, a scathingly critical piece by University Times staff writer Conor Kenny calls Lynch’s journalism ‘astounding’, and has received close on 4,000 likes on Facebook.

Hundreds of individuals are still involved in the search for the University College Cork teenager (18), who was last seen shortly after 1am on Friday evening, after attending Cubins nightclub with friends.

The student was last seen at 1:20am on the top of Dean St (near Barrack St), in Cork’s southside.

Speaking in Cork’s 96Fm earlier this afternoon, the missing boy’s father, Eugene Mulrooney, said that the ‘spirit of Cork’ was driving the family on as they continued the search for their son.

Hundreds of volunteers, emergency services, and the Navy, have together mounted a massive search for the boy since he was last seen on Friday evening.

Journalist criticized

Meanwhile internet chat forums have been alive with discussion criticizing the Mail’s reporter for seemingly fabricating the story that the teenager’s body had been found.

A thread on popular discussion forum Boards.ie entitled “Daily Mail in reaching a new low shocker” reached to four pages, while another forum thread – this time on YouBoysInGreen.ie also drew heavy criticism of the reported in question, who was accused of fabricating the story.

One poster on the Boards thread called for Cork shops to boycott the paper until a full apology was printed for the fabricated story.

“What kind of sick person fabricates a story like this?,” another posted asked, while a further commenter called the story “absolutely shocking”.

Caolan is from Rochestown in Cork city, is a past pupil of Christian Brothers College and a member of Douglas GAA club. He is a talented sportsman and plays hurling, rugby and Gaelic football, according to the Irish Times this afternoon.
