Picture 33 200x200 Cork body confirmed to be that of missing studentGardaí in Cork have confirmed that the body recovered off Douglas Street this morning was that of missing person Caolan Mulrooney.

Mulrooney (18) from Rochestown, had been missing since the early hours of Friday morning.

A massive search effort, which saw the assistance of hundreds of volunteers, had initially focused on the River Lee, before changing to the Douglas Street area after a CCTV lead.

Gardaí have also said that they do not currently believe there to be any evidence of foul play or suspicious circumstances in the student’s death.

The body was found by a local businessman this morning who heeded requests from search organizers for people in the area to check their premises.

Upon the arrival of a Garda team the body was transferred to Cork University Hospital, where it was due to undergo an autopsy.

The family have requested that members of the public do not discuss the circumstances of the death on social networking websites such as Facebook, and honour their right to privacy.
