McGrath (right) hailed UCC's hottest entrepreneur at inaugural Ignite Awards ceremony
McGrath, who runs popular business-to-business (b2b) web portal supply.ie saw off stiff competition from the man UCC students are reportedly labeling ‘UCC’s answer to Mark Zuckerberg‘, Artemy Fedoseev, a young computer science graduate and aspiring social networking guru.
The Award’s inaugural ceremony, held in UCC’s aula maxima, saw local business bosses and recent graduates alike gather to see each participant in the newly created programme awarded with a certificate of participation.
Among businesses springing out of the programme’s first intake include an online pet network, a cosmetics company, and a sports communication web portal.
Speaking at the event Professor Anita Maguire, UCC’s Vice President for Research, congratulated the programme’s founders on its success so far.
Programme Manager Miriam Collins and UCC Director of Stategic Planning Rónán O’Dubhghaill also said that the programme would look to continue as a key means of offering entrepreneurial graduates an alternative to the doom and gloom picture of recession and emigration.
Also honoured on the evening were fashion magazine ‘None’ and costmetics company Seahorse Atlantic, who jointly shared a marketing award, while Planbeam.com won the award for the most innovative project.
